Heavy Duty Tow Team Clears Massive Accident on I-270 E
Capital Towing’s heavy duty tow team was on hand to clear a huge accident on I-270 E on July 23. A tractor trailer was hauling 34,000 lb of steel sheeting when a car came to a sudden stop in front of him. As the truck driver slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the car, the steel sheeting came loose from the straps holding it down.
Within seconds, over 15,000 lb of the steel sheets had torn through the trailer’s tarp and were now laying on the interstate! With an accident of this size, the response needs to be proportional. We sent out a 30 ton heavy wrecker, a 50 ton rotator, a skid steer, a dump truck, a mobile service truck, and a rollback tractor trailer to the scene of the accident.
By the time the Ohio Department of Transportation contacted our heavy duty tow team, traffic had already backed up over 5 miles! If our team could not get to the accident site quickly, the rush-hour congestion would become catastrophic. The Ohio State Highway Patrol provided an escort allowing our team to get there as quickly as possible.
The heavy towing team worked diligently over the next 1.5 hours to clear the scene. They used the skid steer to pick up the steel sheeting and place it on their rollback trailer. They secured the remaining steel sheets to the original trailer. With all the sheeting secured, the heavy towing team towed the tractor trailer back to Capital Towing’s secure lot.
Fantastic work out there team! You worked together to safely clear the accident site, allowing traffic to get back to normal! Keep it up!
